MSN Nurse Executive Overview


Do you have a BSN and want to prepare for a leadership role? If so, a master of science in nursing (MSN), nurse executive degree will increase your professional knowledge and understanding while developing your natural leadership skills. 

In the MSN nurse executive program at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) at Alliant International University, you’ll work with experienced nurse educators to prepare to take on more responsibility, expand your skills in professional decision-making, and gain valuable business and supervisorial experience.

The MSN nurse executive online curriculum is aligned with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) New Essentials for Advanced-Level Nursing Education (AACN, 2021) and the American Organization of Nurse Leaders (AONL) Nurse Leader Competencies. This 36-credit nurse executive masters program is taught entirely online, takes two years to complete, and incorporates 500 hours of completing a systems leadership project with a mentor.

Hands-On, Real-World Training

Although the core classes are all online, you’ll have the opportunity to complete 500 hours of nursing leadership and clinical experience at a location of your choice.

Preparation for Certification

Graduates will be prepared to apply to become a Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML), Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) through AONL, a Nurse Executive (NE-BC), or a Nurse Executive Advanced Board Certification (NEA-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

High-Level Leadership Training

When you enter the program, you’ll be assessed to determine your competencies, which will help you discover your nursing leadership style and areas that need strengthening. Part of your preparation for clinical nurse leader certification will include an evidence-based project that addresses the strategic goals of the institution where conducted. 

Innovative Technology

When you enroll in the online MSN nurse executive program, you’ll receive an iPad Air, pre-loaded with all the textbooks, test prep, modern nursing apps, and other resources you’ll need to complete your program. This is much like the technology nurse executives use every day.

Accreditation and Alignment

Alliant is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The MSN nurse executive program curriculum is aligned with the AACN New Essentials for Advanced-Level Nursing Education (AACN, 2021) and the AONL Nurse Leader Competencies.
